The country is proud of its long and colorful history dating back over 3,000 years and is considered one of the longest documented history of the world. The cultural richness of Sri Lanka can be attributed to the presence of different communities on the island. Sri Lanka is a founder of the SAARC countries and is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth, G77 and the Non-Aligned Movement.
